An Israeli military court on Wednesday sentenced two Palestinians to life in prison for killing an Israeli in the occupied West Bank in 2022, the Israeli army announced, as quoted by AFP.

“A military court found Yehya Meri and Yusef Azzi guilty of intentionally causing the death of Vyacheslav Golev in April 2022,” the army said in a statement, adding that the two men were sentenced to life in prison.

Because of the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, such cases fall under the jurisdiction of military justice.

Vyacheslav Golev, a security guard standing at the entrance to the Jewish settlement of Ariel in the northern West Bank, was shot dead on April 30, 2022 by two assailants who fled in a car before being apprehended the same day.

Nearly three million Palestinians live in the West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967.

About 490,000 Israelis also live there in settlements that the UN considers illegal under international law.
