“In some of today’s publications regarding the issue of lifting immunity from Mr. Georgulis, the following points, which we consider important, have been omitted.

The process was completed in the shortest possible time thanks to Mr. Georgoulis’ repeated and persistent appeals to the European Parliament’s Legal Committee to have his immunity lifted as soon as possible.

Today, the Commission approved the deletion, and therefore the issue will be put to a secret vote by all MEPs at the next plenary session. This means that the process will likely be completed on June 1st. This shortening of the proceedings is due to the fact that Mr. Georgoulis waived the right to be heard, which would have complicated and slowed down the proceedings.

For exactly the same reason, he did not appear at the court session today.

He himself suggested that the competent judicial authorities appear and give explanations, but this was impossible due to the fact that the procedure for lifting his immunity had not been completed.

Today’s development of events is very positive, as after that we expect the authorities to call him to testify and be informed about the content of the complaint and the issues included in the case file.”
