Seeded at number 13, the player from the Czech Republic played the first set unsuccessfully, and started the second much better.
Despite leading 3-0 and 4-2, Tsurenko won four games in a row to advance to the next round against Roland Garros 2021 trophy winner Barbora Krejcikova.
The match lasted one hour and 29 minutes and ended with a score of 6-2, 6-4.
In the next round, Lesya Tsurenko will meet the winner of Chinese Lin Zhu (40 WTA) and American Lauren Davis (52 WTA).
Before the start of the tournament in Paris, the Ukrainian appealed to her compatriots to beat athletes from Russia and Belarus as many times as possible.
The Roland Garros tournament takes place from May 28 to June 11, has a total prize pool of 49.6 million euros, and is the 127th tournament. Iga Sviatek and Rafael Nadal (14-time winner in Paris) became the champions of the title.
