According to the Interior Service of the Northern Greek Security Forces, five Evros border guards who were prosecuted for their possible involvement in illegal migrant trafficking have been arrested.

During the operation, which took place today, five police officers were detained as suspects in her crimes. employee bribery, abuse of power, breach of duty, and violation of the immigration and social inclusion codeand the actions of 4 more foreigners residing outside the territory of Greece were also established.

As it turned out as a result of the investigation, since at least October 2022, police officers, when coming into contact with gangs operating in a neighboring country, allegedly carried out acts or omissions aimed at facilitating the entry of third-country nationals into Greece.

As a result of a comprehensive analysis of the materials collected, it turned out that the above contributed to the illegal entry into the territory of Greece of an unknown number of third-country nationals in at least 12 cases.

As a result of the searches, the following were discovered and seized:

• 26 550 euros,
• 59 mobile phones,
• 12 power banks,
• 2120 USD,
• 850 Turkish Lira,
• 23 British pounds
• 77 Romanian lei,
• many banknotes from Asian countries and
• bank card.

The arrested, against whom a criminal case has been initiated, will be taken to the competent body of the prosecutor’s office.
