USR vice-president Dan Barna has been elected vice-president of the European party ALDE and will have a two-year mandate at the head of the formation, USR announced on Sunday.

According to a statement sent by the USR, delegates from more than 60 parties gathered at the ALDE congress in Stockholm “appreciated Dan Barna’s experience and his contribution to the promotion of liberalism in the European Union and its neighbours”.

  • We will start working together in the 2024 elections. Together we will succeed,” Dan Barna was quoted as saying in the press release.

According to the same source, the leader of the USR, Cătălin Drula, the leader of the delegation present in Stockholm, assessed that after the election of Dan Barna as ALDE vice-president, “the USR has an even stronger European voice.”

The ALDE Congress delegation also includes parliamentarians Diana Buzoianu, Ionuc Mostianu, Cristina Prune, Christian Seidler, USR MEP Vlad Botos, President of USR Bucharest Vlad Voiculescu and mayors of USR, including Elena Lasconi, Radu Mihaiu, Clotilde Armand and Raul Urda.

The Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe consists of 60 liberal parties from all over Europe and is represented in the institutions of the European Union by 65 deputies and five members of the European Commission, reports USR.
