
The London police reported on Saturday that a a man was arrested after he drove into the gates of Downing Streetwhere British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s residence and office is located, was charged in a separate case with indecent photography of children, Reuters reports.
The 43-year-old man appeared in court on Saturday in connection with the images and was remanded in custody to appear at Southwark Crown Court on June 23, police said in a statement.
He was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of criminal damage and dangerous driving after the incident in Downing Street, in which no one was injured. Police said he was released pending further investigation into the incident before releasing details of the other charge.
London police reiterated that the collision was not being treated as “terrorism-related”, but said counter-terrorism services were supporting the investigation.
Police cordoned off Downing Street on Thursday after a car approached the gates at low speed. After the incident, the main gate was undamaged.
