The largest suspended roundabout on the Capital Ring, the Oltenitei – Popesti Leordeni interchange, which will change the configuration of the DNCB – DN4 intersection, will be open to traffic from 10:00 on Saturday, National Road Company director Christian Pistole said. . The passage, which is a major change in the configuration of the junction between DNCB and DN4 at the Popești-Leordeni exit, is the largest of the roundabouts being built on the capital’s current ring road.
- “The Oltenit interchange is the largest of a series of three interchanges built by CNAIR in the south of the capital and is egg-shaped, unlike the roundabouts at Domnest and Berchen (which are round).
- This 3.69 km long road, built in the area of the city of Popeşti-Leordeni, provides from now on a continuous connection of the southern belt of the capital (between A2 and A1), as well as between Oltenicei road (Bucharest) and DN4 (Ilfov county),” he wrote on Saturday head of CNAIR on Facebook.
The Oltenita interchange is the third facility currently open to traffic crossing the Capital Ring, following the Mogoshoai interchange, which opened in September 2021, and the Domnesti interchange, which opened in November 2022.
According to the head of CNAIR, Bercheny crossing will be opened soon.

Why are suspended roundabouts being built on the Capital Ring Road
Four suspended roundabouts on the Capital Ring Road are currently under consideration: the Domnești roundabout is already open, the Berceni and Oltenita roundabouts are under construction, and in Cernica work has been suspended with an Italian builder unable to mobilize for construction. site for two years.
The suspended roundabout solution is applied to the Metropolitan Ring Road, as it is attached to the Ring Road, so any crossing must also identify traffic directions over the railway.
In essence, the suspended roundabouts will allow drivers to travel in either direction as well as bypass the ring railway (without crossings), while the Ring Road will remain on the ground and will no longer have conflicting intersections in its travel path.
The current ring road will be widened to four lanes between the Oltenice road and the Berchen road, making a total of about 6 kilometers of widened road.
