Greek MEP Eva Kylie, implicated in the massive Qatargate corruption scandal in the European Parliament, plans to resume her duties next week after being granted permission to remove her electronic bracelet on Thursday, her lawyer said on Friday, AFP reported.

“Next week she will be in the European Parliament to fulfill her duties,” Eva Kyli’s Greek lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos told the Greek TV channel Skai.

She will also ask parliament to determine whether the surveillance, arrest and time spent in prison violated her rights as an MEP, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos added.

Belgian justice on Thursday allowed a 44-year-old former journalist to remove her electronic bracelet and released her from house arrest pending a corruption trial.

Former European Parliament rising star Eva Kylie has been sacked as vice-president and expelled from the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) parliamentary group.

Eva Kylie, who was arrested last December after a wave of searches, was released from prison in mid-April but was placed under house arrest and forced to wear an electronic bracelet.

Kylie denies all the charges.

Two other suspects in the case of alleged corruption in the European Parliament have already benefited this month from the lifting of this home surveillance measure.

They are the Belgian MEP Mark Tarabella, who, like Eva Kylie, declares his innocence, and Francesco Giorgi, the companion of the Greek elected official and former parliamentary assistant of Pier Antonio Panzeri.

The latter, a former Italian MEP (2004-2019), who is the central figure in the case, is still required to wear an electronic bracelet, which is one of the methods of preventive detention in Belgium.

At least six suspects have been charged in this case of alleged corruption in favor of Qatar and Morocco, including participation in a criminal organization and money laundering.

The scandal erupted in December when Belgian investigators seized around 1.5 million euros in suitcases or bags during searches in Brussels, including the homes of Kylie and Panzer.
