The White House reiterated to Ukraine that the US does not support attacks on Russian territory after the raid, which caused panic in the Belgorod region on the Russian-Ukrainian border, Ukrainian Pravda reports.
“We don’t want to encourage or allow it, we certainly don’t want any American-made equipment to be used to attack Russian territory. And we received assurances from the Ukrainians that they will respect these wishes,” said John Kirby, White House National Security Adviser, in an interview with CNN.
“We very clearly communicated that we want Ukraine to be able to protect its land, its territory. They were attacked. They succumbed to the invasion. They have the right to defend themselves. But we also made it very clear that we do not want to see an escalation of this war beyond the destruction and violence that has already struck the Ukrainian people,” the American official emphasized.
Kirby added that the negotiations with the leadership in Kyiv were not aimed at drawing “consequences” in the case of the use of American weapons on the territory of Russia, but were only a “confirmation” of Washington’s already expressed position on this matter.
According to him, discussions on this topic were conducted quite recently, “a little more than a day ago or something like that.”
Kirby’s comments came after the Russian Volunteer Corps and the Russian Legion of Freedom, two paramilitary groups made up of Russians opposed to Vladimir Putin and fighting on the side of Ukraine, raided the Belgorod region earlier this week, sparking panic among Russian residents here.
Fighting erupted along the Russian-Ukrainian border after the forces launched a cross-border attack early Monday, pushing almost unopposed tens of kilometers into Russia.
Did anti-Putin partisans use American weapons in the Belgorod raid?
Video footage released online by one of the “guerrilla” groups that launched the raid appears to show US-made military vehicles, including Humvee multi-purpose vehicles and International Maxxpro 1224 anti-mine vehicles, involved in the raid.
After the first day of fighting, Russia claimed to have captured one of the MaxxPro machines, although this could not be independently confirmed. However, the well-known page Ukraine Weapons Tracker published an image of a MaxxPro allegedly captured by the Russians and used by pro-Ukrainian Russian units during the raid on Belgorod.

“We have made it very clear to Ukrainians that we do not allow or encourage attacks outside the borders of Ukraine, but I think it is important to step back and remind everyone and remind the world that, of course, Russia started this war. “, State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in Washington at the time.
At the same time, he said that the United States is skeptical of the information that weapons provided by the United States were used to attack Russian territory.
