What was the Parthenon like in the “golden age of Pericles”? What images did the inspection of the temple of Brauronia Artemis and Chalkothek, which have not survived today, the conservatory of Herod Atticus, as well as the monuments of the southern slope of the Acropolis, produce? Now we can answer these questions, because with the help of a new innovative application we have the opportunity to tour the Holy Rock, seeing through our mobile phone or tablet its most important monuments as they were in their heyday. The reason for the introduction of augmented and virtual reality COSMOTE CHRONOS.

The COSMOTE CHRONOS app is free for everyone around the world and aims to bring our story to global coverage. This is the result of a collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Sports and COSMOTE, with the support of the Acropolis Museum, under the Cultural Sponsorship Agreement. A team of experts worked on the implementation of the application, editing both the archaeological and historical content, as well as the technical features and innovations of the application.

Revival of iconic monuments with the help of artificial intelligence and augmented reality technologies

Using advanced AR, VR, AI digital technologies and 5G network capabilities, the application displays scientifically documented virtual digital images of the Athenian Acropolis monuments along with historical information on the screen of a mobile device.

Representations include the Parthenon, the conservatory of Herod Atticus, the Mosque of Bravronius of Artemis and Chalkothek, which have not survived today, as well as the monuments of the southern slope of the Sacred Rock, as seen from the Acropolis Museum. The app also features specific iconic exhibits from the third floor of the museum, where the sculptures of the Parthenon are on display.

Images of the monuments of the Acropolis are scientifically documented. The content of COSMOTE CHRONOS has been documented by experienced archaeologists and architects who have dealt with specific monuments in specialized books and articles over the past 150 years. For the virtual digital representation of the application, drawings, sketches and sketches from international literature were used.

Scientific editing of the content of the COSMOTE CHRONOS app was carried out by Mr. Panos Valavanis, Professor Emeritus in the Department of History and Archeology at the National University of Kapodistrias in Athens.

Users of the application can admire life-size monuments and view them from the inside from anywhere, whether on the Acropolis itself, anywhere in Greece or abroad. At the Holy Rock, the experience takes off as virtual digital images are dynamically and accurately projected onto the current image of the monuments captured by the camera of a mobile device using augmented reality. Even the high level of photorealism achieved depending on the season and meteorological conditions in real time is noteworthy.

Cleo can already answer over 10,000 questions in Greek and English and also offers the possibility of a group tour of up to 5 people. In a 4G or WiFi network environment, the tour is provided automatically.
