Government spokesman Dan Carbonaro announced that the increase demanded by the education unions should only be made through a future wage bill, not now. Until then, however, the government still provides teachers with an “incentive” of 2,500 lei for their entire teaching career.
Cărbunaru announced a 9% salary increase for non-teaching staff only and a bonus in June and one in October of 500 lei.
220 thousand teachers and auxiliary teaching staff will receive incentives in the amount of 2,500 lei for their teaching career, the first tranche in June in the amount of 1,000 lei, the second in October in the amount of 1,500 lei.
“These efforts that are being made will be doubled by the fact that on September 1 the new salary law will be quickly discussed, so that on January 1, 2024, teachers will already have new salary rights,” Cărbunaru said.
The government boasts of a series of measures it will take in the future for teachers:
- reduction of teaching standards,
- five additional salaries for teachers in disadvantaged areas and for transport
- extra activity awards available to the school principal and
- payments upon retirement in the amount of two official salaries.
Universities will be able to raise salaries from the available budget.
