The United States on Wednesday announced the sale to Ukraine of advanced NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems worth about $285 million to strengthen the country’s air defenses against Russia, AFP reported.
“Ukraine urgently needs to strengthen its defense capabilities against Russian air and missile attacks,” the US Defense Cooperation Agency (DSCA) said in a statement.
The State Department approved the sale, which was notified to the US Congress, which has not yet given its consent.
Air defense turned out to be a decisive factor in the conflict in the face of Russian missile fire.
This sale of NASAMS systems parallels billions of dollars in military aid provided by the United States to Ukraine since the start of the Russian offensive on February 24, 2022.
