Ruud van Nistelrooy resigned from PSV

The former Dutch forward started his coaching career in PSV’s youth team and was appointed to lead the first team last summer.

In their first season, PSV defeated Ajax in the Dutch Cup and Supercup finals and finished second in the Eredivisie (leading to Champions League qualification).

However, Van Nistelrooy left his position, saying he did not feel supported by the club’s management. The manager was left frustrated after the January moves of two key players, Cody Gakpo to Liverpool and Noni Madueke to Chelsea.

“Head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy announced on Wednesday morning that he will be leaving PSV.

After several internal discussions in recent weeks, a meeting between the Board of Directors and Van Nistelrooy took place on Tuesday evening. It was decided to focus on the AZ game next Sunday and continue discussions after the end of the season.

Van Nistelrooy revealed this morning that he does not believe the club has enough support to continue for much longer. He immediately explained this to the players and staff. Fred Rutten will take over as interim head coach this Sunday at the request of management.

“PSV regrets Van Nistelrooy’s decision and thanks him for winning the Cup and the Super Cup.” it is stated in the PSV press release.

Fred Rutten, who was van Nistelrooy’s assistant, will become the interim coach.
