A fine of 100,000 euros in Greek train and 98,000 euros up to operating environment introduced by the Railway Transport Authority, as it revealed a lot of errors and violations of general traffic rules, as well as safety plans during bad weather “Nadezhda”, on January 24, 2022, when it stopped right in front of the Livadia passenger train (IC 54), which was following the route Athens-Thessaloniki with 181 passengers and collided with an auxiliary/tow engine.

The incident resulted in injuries to approximately 6 passengers and the subsequent shutdown of two other trains on the rail network. resulting in passengers getting stuck in very adverse conditions. Omissions, mistakes, gaps in communication between employees of the two companies and a general lack of coordination in emergency situations led a year later to a fatal accident in Tempe that claimed the lives of 57 people.

According to the decision of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as it was announced after an ex officio investigation of the incident, violations of railway legislation were revealed in relation to the Hellenic Train train, as the train employees, limited to “other duties, viz.that is, in compliance with the safety rules when the train is parked.

At the same time, the resolution states that the drivers of the IC 54 train did not consult with the Livadia and Oina stations in order to choose the most “favorable, i.e. in terms of ease of implementation of speed, as well as the impact on traffic in general”, and another paragraph refers to violations also in relation to the speed of the driver of the tractor, where, based on the general rules of the road, it is provided “the speed of movement from the speed of a pedestrian to the maximum speed 40 km/h in order to park in time in front of an obstacle in the form of an approaching train or a parking signal at any time.”
