Ukraine’s foreign ministry told Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Tuesday that he was among European leaders who doubted that Ukraine would be able to withstand a Russian offensive at the start of the invasion, after Hungary’s prime minister reiterated that Kyiv could not to win the war against Russia, Ukrainian Pravda reports.
“Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, commenting on Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, said that it does not matter who invaded whom. He is convinced that Ukraine cannot win the war. The Kremlin should be happy: the head of the government of Hungary removed Russia’s responsibility for aggression against Ukraine,” said Oleg Nikolayenko, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kyiv, on Tuesday.
He also recalled that the same European politicians who now say that Ukraine cannot win the war, said last year that it had no chance of holding out for more than 72 hours in the face of the invasion launched by Vladimir Putin on February 24.
“They were wrong then and they are wrong now,” Nikolenko emphasized, adding that “unlike supporters of surrender without enemy resistance, Ukrainians will continue to fight until their territories are completely freed from Russian occupation.”
“This is the only way to not only restore peace in Ukraine, but also ensure the security of all of Europe,” said the Kyiv official.
He also stated that it is now extremely important for Ukraine’s partners to join forces so that Kyiv has everything it needs to accelerate the defeat of Russia.
What Viktor Orban said about Ukraine’s chances of winning the war with Vladimir Putin
Nikolenko’s comments came after Viktor Orbán said in an interview with Bloomberg earlier on Tuesday that “looking at the numbers, looking at the environment, looking at the fact that NATO is not ready to send BANDS [în Ucraina]it is obvious that there is no victory for the poor Ukrainians on the battlefield.”
Orbán, who is in Qatar for an economic forum organized by the Gulf state, also expressed hope that Donald Trump will win a new term as US president, and Hungary’s prime minister said that only his re-election can stop the war that has developed shouted Vladimir Putin. last year.
Viktor Orban, after the start of the Russian invasion, stated several times that Ukraine could not win the war, despite the successes of the Kyiv troops on the battlefield.
In July of last year, at a press conference in Vienna, together with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehhammer, he condemned NATO’s strategy of supplying weapons to Ukraine.
“It is impossible to win this war in this form,” the Prime Minister of Hungary said at the time.
Also on Tuesday, Viktor Orbán again stated that his government opposes Sweden’s accession to NATO. Hungary and Turkey are the only member states of the alliance that oppose the Scandinavian country’s accession to NATO.
“Political relations between Hungary and Sweden are terribly bad,” he said, adding that “we don’t want to import conflicts into NATO.”
