During their mission to cold waters of the Bering Seabetween Russia and Alaska, last summer scientists found a series of “mysterious” holes in the seabed, however, not knowing and not being able to understand their origin or “creator”.
Researchers on the German research vessel Sonne have begun a “hunt” for clues, methodically checking several hundred camera photographs of the seafloor.
The photographs showed rows of oval-shaped holes measuring 2-3 centimeters each – as if someone had pierced this spot with a stick.
