Cannes: Premiere of Documentary on Afghan Women Signed by J. Lawrence

OUR Jennifer Lawrence involved in the production of a documentary film “Bread and roses”, a film that follows three Afghan women after the return of the Taliban to power in 2021. The premiere of the documentary took place at the ongoing Cannes Film Festival.

“My heart was beating so hard as I watched these women stand up to the Taliban,” Lawrence told the BBC. She added, “You don’t see that side of the story… on the news every day, it’s an important part of our film and these women’s stories.”

According to The Guardian, the documentary was produced by Excellent Cadaver, a production company founded by Lawrence and her friend and producer Justine Czarocki.

“The consequences for women have been dire,” Ciaroki told The Hollywood Reporter. “Jen’s first step was to find an Afghan director and introduce him.”

The documentary, directed by award-winning Afghan Sara Mani, tells how women’s lives changed overnight after the Taliban took over Kabul.

“This film sends a message. Please be the voice of these women who cannot be heard because of the regime,” Money said at the premiere, stating in an interview on the festival website that filming was difficult and the safety of the participants was the highest priority.
