
The governors’ promise to limit the number of state employees through a state hiring freeze passed last week by emergency order should be viewed with great caution, given how the number of public employees has changed in the second half of 2022, when the same measure was in effect.
The discipline of state institutions regarding the blocking of jobs was, to put it mildly, questionable, since from June 2022, the last month before the freeze, to January 2023, when the ban was officially lifted, the number of state employees increased by 9 thousand, even represented by the Ministry of Finance. According to News.ro, USR deputy Christian Seidler says it will be 11,000, but he appears to have taken into account figures from July 2022, the first month the hiring ban was or was to be applied.
