A10 by Artmark auction house celebrates the completion of 500 auctions held on the Romanian art market as part of an anniversary event to promote contemporary art. This time, it is the first contemporary art auction with a hall after three years of organization exclusively online. In March, the auction house A10 by Artmark organized the first part of the anniversary auction with number 500 (recorded a total amount of approximately 1 million euros and a judgment rate of more than 86%), presenting masterpieces of art signed by the great masters of Romanian classical art. The second part of the anniversary auction, which will take place on Thursday, May 25, is dedicated to contemporary art – a cultural phenomenon that is rapidly developing and has gained significant popularity in recent years. Events dedicated to contemporary art, organized by A10 by Artmark, have become a tradition in the House’s cultural calendar, making a significant contribution to the popularization and development of this segment in Romania.

At the center of the jubilee auction dedicated to contemporary art is the artist Štefan Kaltia, who is signing the large-scale work “The Mistletoe Bearer”, the starting price of which is 30,000 euros. The market quotation of the works of the artist Stefan Kaltia has shown a significant evolution in recent years, including against the background of his frequent exhibitions in museums, both in Bucharest and in important museums of the country. Another work signed by Stefan Kaltia is “Buffalo”, which has a starting price of €20,000. Whether it’s about the heroes’ flight and ascension, or about Transylvanian houses, roads or paths, Stefan Kaltia’s works approach a picturesque narrative from a personal perspective that fascinates all generations of collectors. The artist also makes such a narrative invitation through the work “Yellow Sky”, the starting price of which at the auction is 15,000 euros.

The jubilee auction dedicated to contemporary art could not miss the artist Horia Bernea, who presented four impressive works. The most valuable works signed by Goria Bernea are part of the famous garden cycle – “The Garden” (with the artist’s subtitle “Beauty will save the world”), very large in size, the starting price of which is 25,000 euros; as well as the second “Garden”, the starting price of which is 6,000 euros. In addition to lush gardens, Horia Bernea is an artist who also paid attention to forms with pronounced axiality, giving rise to a series of columns. The starting price of “Columns” from the auction of post-war and contemporary art signed by Horia Bernea is 4,000 euros.

Another impressive exhibit, one of the first works in the large constellation series signed by Horia Damian, is the 1959 Galaxie. The work has a starting price of 10,000 euros and comes from the collection of Belgian Philippe Dautremont.

The contemporary sculpture segment is represented by artists who influenced the evolution of modern art, such as Ion Mandrescu, Ion Irimescu, Ion Iancut, Marcel Guguianu or George Apostou. The largest sculpture at the auction is “Man, Time, Space”, made in the 1990s by Ion Mandrescu. The bronze work has a starting price of €25,000 and is part of a series of sculptures that marked the artist’s reorientation towards figurative art. A special feature is also the sculpture “Pegasus and Apollo”, made by Ion Irimescu – an artist who sculpts legends from bronze and repeats for his viewers the myths that were the basis of European culture. The starting price of the work at the auction is 10,000 euros.

At the auction dedicated to contemporary art, artists who have shown a growing trend in recent years were not left without attention: Felix Aftene, who signed the large-scale work “Dream of the Ancestors” (starting price 7,000 euros); Iryna Dragomir surprises with color with the work “True Lies” (starting price 2000 euros); Georges Mazilou, represented by two symbolic works – “Pomona” (starting price 2000 euros) and “La femme a la chandelle” (starting price 3000 euros).
