Thessaloniki: 10 people arrested today for 105 kg cocaine consignment apologize

Today, 10 arrested people apologized to the 4th regular investigator of Thessaloniki. for loading 105 kg of cocaine which was uncovered last week by the Thessaloniki Drug Enforcement Prosecutor’s Office after cooperating with the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the prosecution authorities of North Macedonia.

Among those arrested and accused of being members of an international cocaine ring is its alleged ringleader, a 68-year-old doctor known for his cases of smuggling cigarettes and fuel in the Balkans. The criminal prosecution against them concerns the actions of leading, creating and joining a criminal organization, as well as a particularly well-known case of drug trafficking by profession.

The Drug Prosecution appears to have followed the movements of the ring for three years. The countdown to the arrests of its participants began last Monday afternoon, when, after an episodic chase, a 34-year-old driver was detained, transporting in his car. Following his movements, the police determined that he had received a narcotic substance – “mammoth” from a warehouse in Agios Athanasios, Thessaloniki.

According to EL.AS, the illegal cargo arrived in the last 10 days of April at the port of Thessaloniki in a container with bananas and the country of origin Ecuador. It was then transported by truck to a warehouse, where it was removed from its containers. The information indicates that the cocaine was well hidden on the beams of the containers and was destined for shipment both to Greece and to other European countries.

The scheme is said to generate an estimated profit of at least 2.1 million euros, while it is estimated that the benefit from further human trafficking will be between 8 and 11 million euros.

From EL.AS. it was also announced that almost simultaneously with the Thessaloniki police operation in North Macedonia, four people were arrested, including an alleged owner of a “showcase” company based in a neighboring country who had placed an order for containers. with a legal product.
