Mayor Robert Negoice planted palm trees on Piața Unirii in Bucharest, in the area near the Unirea store, where he installed sidewalks and some green spaces without the consent of the city hall. The mayor says that he was preparing such a “surprise” for us, and palm trees are cheap, around 1,000 lei per piece.

“Forget what a surprise we came with. We already have palm trees in Piața Unirii, our colleagues plant these plants that we like so much, with which we take pictures every time we go abroad to more exotic places. Forget how beautiful they are, how good they look, they are acclimatized plants. They have just been planted, tied up and for some time they will be packed like this, because they should be as comfortable as possible. They were injured and are suffering in transpalnatra, they were brought from afar,” the mayor said in a video posted on his Facebook page.

The mayor says that in this form they survive up to -20 degrees, and if it’s colder, they can be wrapped.

“Experts assure that they will survive the winter, they have no problems up to -15, -20 degrees. When was the last time it was -20 degrees in Bucharest? Let’s be serious, the weather has changed. Even if the temperature is lower, we protect them, come and pack them when we know that a wave of very cold air will come,” the mayor explained.

As for costs, Robert Negoitz says they are cheap.

“And, yes, it costs two lei, it costs very little, up to a thousand lei per piece with transport and VAT. If you find a better price for such large plants, please let me know, I’m very interested. We guarantee that if one dies, a healthy plant will replace it. We want not only to have as much greenery as possible, but also as much variety and beauty as possible. The palm trees are really beautiful, and I really hope that they will grow big, be healthy and stay with us for a long time,” explained the mayor.
