The discovery of a criminal group involved in the theft of ATMs, as well as residential buildings, was reported by EL.AS. Six Greeks (aged 28 to 39 years) were arrested as its members, a criminal case was initiated against them, with which they were taken to the Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki.
The arrests were made during a police operation early Thursday morning (November 5) in Nicopoli, Thessaloniki, with the assistance of the EKAM group. Previously, the detainees unsuccessfully tried to enter the place where an ATM was installed in a shopping center located along the Thessaloniki-Kavala highway.
Prosecutors have long been investigating a criminal group that is allegedly responsible for a burglary that took place last January at an ATM in Thermi, looting more than 72,000 euros. In addition, its members appear to be involved in two other ATM hacking attempts in the Lagadas and Chalcedon areas, when they broke into a house in Panorama, from where they stole jewelry. They are accused of trying to break into a safe at a house in Pefka.
A characteristic feature of their actions, as shown by the police, was their movement in powerful vehicles in which they placed stolen license plates, while they possessed special equipment for breaking into ATMs and safes, as well as devices that interfere or interfere with wireless communication systems ( jammer).
During the investigations, four cars, two stolen motorcycles and a license plate were found, specialized tools – electro-hydraulic expanders for opening safes and ATMs, hacking tools, a transceiver tuned to EL.AS frequencies, an impromptu oxygen cutting circuit with gas – installed and seized an oxygen cylinder, a disassembled pistol, cartridges and a magazine, as well as an amount of 6,500 euros.
All the detainees were involved in the past by the prosecutor’s office for various crimes, and the investigation of their possible involvement in other illegal actions is ongoing.
