“beetle juice“, one of his most classic and favorite films Tim Burton released in 1988, will receive a sequel.
Production company Warner Bros. have already decided on the release date for the continuation of the film, namely September 6, 2024.
Based on the comic book by American cartoonist Tex Avery in the original film about Michael Keaton he plays Skatazumis in a performance that is admittedly one of the best of his career.
In Burton’s dark fantasy-thriller comedy starring Keaton, Geena Davis, Alec Baldwin and Winona Ryder, a newlywed couple moves into their new home and quickly adjusts to a new life and hospitable neighborhood. However, two of them die in an accident and when they realize what has happened, they try to get used to the afterlife. Thus, they will find themselves obliged to haunt the house they lived in, “scaring” the new residents.
Bumblebee grossed $80 million and has been a staple of modern pop culture since its release. In fact, related cartoons and other projects have been released.
The sequel will reunite Burton with his Wednesday co-star Jenna Ortega. According to sources, the actress will play her daughter Lydia (Ryder) from the first film. The surprise, however, is the possible return of Keaton to this legendary role.
The script was signed by Netflix series Wednesday creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar.
And while the film is due in theaters on September 6, the current writers’ strike has led the studio to halt production. So it is still not clear whether the creators will be able to prepare the film by the target date.
According to Deadline, Beetlejuice 2 has been in development for some time now, with various writers showing interest in getting involved, and Burton is considering taking over the film.
However, plans shifted in the spring and Ortega discussed her involvement, with production expected to start in the summer in London.
Shortly before Wednesday’s premiere, Ortega told The Hollywood Reporter about working with Burton, “It was a crazy experience. I have been fortunate to work with an iconic director who is also one of the nicest people I have ever met at work. In addition, he pays a lot of attention to detail.”
