The leader of UDMR deputies, Choma Botond, said that AUR protesters booed and threatened him on Wednesday in the perimeter of the parliament building, believing that the possibility of strengthening security measures should be discussed at the level of parliament. leadership of the Chamber of Deputies.
“I come to the Parliament on foot, and I passed through Izvor Street, on the sidewalk, from the side of the Parliament Palace. The gendarmes told me that I could not enter the first entrance, I went to the next entrance, passed through the demonstrators, they booed me, and I am sure that I was also threatened, but I was not hit. They said, “Take him by the neck!”, such aggressive language. I think they recognized me if they said “Get out of the UDMR!”. I headed to the other entrance and then I heard some steps, some people running behind, but the gendarmes stopped them.(…) What happened is unacceptable,” Choma Botond said in parliament, as quoted by Agerpres.
According to him, “these people are being misled by an extremist and chauvinist party called AUR.”
“And we go to the scenes, I don’t know, maybe there were similar scenes in Nazi Germany. This is not normal in a democracy. I was never afraid to go on foot, on the street, to communicate with citizens. But you see what is happening: unfortunately, these people are being incited and deceived, because there is nothing true about what the AUR says about the laws that we are voting in the parliament today. I understood that these were colleagues – Mr. Orban, who was attacked. I believe that everyone decides for himself whether to file a complaint or not. This is an illegal protest, but I don’t quite understand how it could have happened. I did not suddenly, they were stopped by the gendarmes. (…) Of course, if it weren’t for the gendarmes, maybe they would have roughed me up, maybe they would have hit me,” Botond explained.
The UDMR deputy noted that there is a possibility that such protests could be reborn, in connection with which he emphasized that the situation on Wednesday should be discussed at the Permanent Bureau, accordingly, certain security measures.
“I really want to stop and tell them that everything AUR is saying is not true, but after I saw that they were quite aggressive, I had no one to talk to. However, we have to think: it was a security incident, you saw it too, those bullets hit the parliament building, but still I don’t think we should restrict access to the parliament, we shouldn’t sit here, let us be separated from the citizens. But we have to take some safety precautions. We have to do the analysis in the permanent office as well. (…) Since I have seen how some colleagues react, what performances they have, I think they can go in this direction (increasing incidents on Wednesday – no). I believe that it is necessary to take certain enhanced security measures,” the UDMR deputy also noted.
Asked whether there should be more security at the entrance to the Palace of Parliament, Choma Botond said: “I think there will be a stricter control at the entrance to the building for a period of time.”
An AUR employee was stopped on Wednesday at the entrance to the Palace of Parliament after SPP representatives found four rounds of ammunition at the control gate.
According to police sources, the woman involved in the incident said that the ammunition was souvenirs from the shooting. These, at first glance, appear to be unloaded heads.
She was taken to the police department, where the police officers of the Department of Protection of Weapons and Explosive Substances are checking for the crime of non-compliance with the regime of storage of weapons and ammunition.
Access to the Chamber of Deputies was blocked.
