Tempe: Mapping the location of victims – what the researcher says “K”

The Families Investigation Independent Committee of Technical Advisers has begun mapping the positions of the victims of the Tempe vehicular tragedy in order to assess as accurately as possible the conditions that led to the injuries and deaths in each car of the train.

Combining the data of cash tickets, the results of the autopsy of the wreckage and the testimonies of survivors and rescuers, the members of the commission found that in addition to the four drivers who died in the A1 car, there were 15 injured in the A1 car, 27 injured in the car, 9 passengers died in the B2 car, and 9 passengers died in the B3 car. two were hurt.

Especially:

V wagon A1 class A the survivors were not identified and could not survive due to the severity of the initial encounter.

From wagon of Cilicia (maximum capacity 42 people + 2 workers) at least 6 survivors have been identified to date.

V wagon B2 (maximum capacity 66 seats, divided into 11 compartments) 9 people were injured, 7 in front of the car and 2 in the back. In addition, at least 4 people in the front seats were ejected from the car during the derailment phase and survived with severe injuries.

At the same time, according to the commission, at least 26 passengers (possibly more) from compartments 4 to 10 managed to leave the car before the fire spread to the entire car.

V wagon B3 (with a maximum capacity of 80 seats) 2 injured as a result of derailment and violent contact of B3 with the train engine and B2 car. The B3 was not in a fire hazard, but was enveloped in smoke, causing serious breathing problems for passengers.

He talked about research in cathimerini.gr, researcher and committee member Konstantinos Lakathosis, stressing that mapping the whereabouts of victims is a complex process. “If we were on the plane, we would have the exact number of seats. You get a list of passengers and know in the air search who was sitting where. In this case, it is not very clear where everyone was sitting, because there are lists, but there are two problems. There are about 90 anonymous tickets that have been cut up at the counter, so we know that someone has booked a seat, but we don’t know who it is, and secondly, because the train is not very controlled, the passengers switch places. So we also examined the evidence, because some of it was out of place. The transition process is long and difficult.”

At the same time, Mr. Lakafosis noted that as a result of the investigation, it turned out that no one was left alive in the first carriage, and only a few survived in the second, adding that this procedure is carried out in order to establish what caused the death of passengers. “The important part is the fire, from which we have not concluded where it came from. We want to see if people were burned or killed by the impact. That is the cause of death,” he concluded.
