Police have identified five people for hooded men breaking into an exhibition by Sergei Andreevsky from North Macedonia late last month at the Remezzo Art Gallery in Aretsu, Kalamaria.
The attackers forcibly demanded that the artist withdraw his work and close the exhibition. The incident prompted the intervention of a prosecutor, and videos posted online by the perpetrators revealed that they were members of the Golden Dawn.
As part of a prosecutorial investigation, the Thessaloniki Department of Combating Racist Violence identified four Greeks (aged 19 to 24) and a 22-year-old foreigner as the perpetrators, against whom a criminal case has been initiated, which will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office of First Instance of Thessaloniki. Eight other people are also being sought who appear to have been involved in the same episode.
As noted in a statement by EL.AS, “Acting as a group with combined forces, mental connection and nationalistic motives and hiding their facial features, the attackers intervened by posting printed materials and urging the artist to stop the operation. Exhibitions”.
The materials of the case contain elements of unlawful racially motivated violence (in complicity), incitement to commit crimes, as well as the commission of violent acts and acts of hatred.
The police investigation continues to identify other perpetrators.
