US President Joe Biden “hopes” that the screenwriters on strike in Hollywood will be quickly offered a “fair” deal, he said on Monday at the White House, according to AFP.

“I sincerely hope that the Hollywood writers’ strike is resolved and that the writers get the fair deal they deserve as soon as possible,” Joe Biden said before a screening honoring the Asian community in the United States.

The 80-year-old Democrat, a candidate for his own legacy, who does not lose any opportunity to support the demands of the trade unions, has not yet spoken about this social conflict.

Thousands of American TV and film writers went on strike on May 2 due to the failure of negotiations with major studios and online platforms, including over salary increases.

They also demand minimum guarantees of stable jobs and a larger share of the profits from streaming growth.

This social movement has an immediate impact on certain television programs and, in the long term, on series and movies that are scheduled to be released this year.

The last major social movement in Hollywood dates back to the writers’ strike that paralyzed the American audiovisual industry in 2007-2008. The 100-day conflict cost the industry two billion dollars.
