Rafael Nadal also withdrew from the ATP tournament in Rome

Rafa is taking all precautions ahead of Roland Garros (May 28-June 11) and announced on Instagram that he will not play in the competition in Rome, which will be held from May 9 to 21, the last before the Grand Slam tournament.

“I am very sorry to inform you that I will not be able to be present in Rome. You all know how painful it is for me to miss another one of the tournaments that marked my professional and personal career.

Although I have noticed an improvement in the last few days, it has been many months without the opportunity to train at a high level and the rehabilitation process takes time and I have no choice but to continue working,” said the Spaniard.

An iliopsoas injury was supposed to keep him out for 6-8 weeks, but it’s been 16 since the Spaniard last played (he was beaten by Mackenzie McDonald at the Australian Open).

Nadal already had to withdraw from seven tournaments: Doha, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid. The Italian Open 2023 (Rome) will take place from May 9 to 21 and is part of the ATP Masters 1000 category. It offers a total prize money of €7,705,780 and the reigning champion is Novak Djokovic.
