Doctor’s conclusion that “the possibility that Rula Pispirigo suffers from Munchausen’s syndrome could not be ruled out.” provoked a reaction from Mr. Kougia, who asked for the trial to be halted so that two experts could be appointed to conduct a psychiatric evaluation to decide whether a particular syndrome was a problem for the accused.

Mr. Iliadis received a flurry of questions from Mr. Kougia, who believes, as he told him, that the witness was “trying to make Rula Pispiriga a defendant with Munchausen syndrome” from the very beginning. In fact, when the lawyer announced that the doctor was losing his license, the president intervened by calling the lawyer back to class.

Mr. Kougias focused his questions on the controversial syndrome, as well as on the actions taken by Mr. Iliadis in search of the possibility that the mother was suffering. The doctor testified that he had recommended that the 34-year-old see a hospital psychiatrist.
