The Prince and Princess of Wales took the Tube to a London pub on Thursday, where the crown prince and his wife, who are trying to project an image of a modern, relatable couple, were applauded by a crowd of onlookers, two days before Charles III’s grand coronation, News.ro reported.

“Breaking news: Royal couple visit pub in Soho,” wrote British news stations, broadcasting images from every angle of the royal family’s most popular couple.

William, 40, and Kate, 41, took the Tube to this part of central London known for its nightlife.

The trip – three stops on the modern Elizabeth line, which opened last year – was widely covered by news channels.

William and Kate then went to a pub and enjoyed a long walk with hundreds of fans who had gathered for the occasion. Then, in front of the cameras, the Prince of Wales went behind the counter to pour himself a pint.

The couple took the opportunity to discuss preparations with staff ahead of the coronation long weekend, which is expected to see tens of thousands of visitors.

William and Kate, hugely popular among Britons, have a tough task of rejuvenating the British monarchy, which generates little enthusiasm among young people.
