Erling Haaland is breaking record after record in a Manchester City shirt, and Pep Guardiola has forced him to choose between the Norwegian and Argentina’s Lionel Messi.

Despite now coaching Haaland, Guardiola said Messi remains the best player he has seen.

If he scores another Premier League goal, Haaland will break the record held by Andy Cole and Alan Shearer.

Both Cole (with Newcastle in 1993–94) and Shearer (with Blackburn in 1994–95) each scored 34 goals in a Premier League season in 42 outings, four more than now.

Erling Haaland can play a maximum of 10 games this season: six in the Premier League, one in the FA Cup and a maximum of three in the Champions League if Manchester City reach the final.
