
Famous actress and singer Suli Sabah has died at the age of 91.
Anastasia Christodoulou (that is her real name) was born in 1932 in Alexandria, Egypt, and after she decided to work in the entertainment industry, she adopted the artistic name Souli Sabah (s.s. means “light of the east, light of the dawn” in Arabic ). Her father was from Polemi Paphos and her mother from Chios. He moved to Athens in the 1950s and began to sing at the famous secular center “Tsaki”.
Her first film appearance was in Laterna, Ptocheia i Filotimo alongside Jeny Karesis, Vassilis Avlonitis and Mimi Fotopoulos. He has also appeared in popular television productions as well as major shows and reviews. She was the wife of Dimitris Nikolaidis, also an actor.
The sad news was confirmed by the President of the Union of Greek Actors Spyros Bibilas in his Facebook post: “Another sad departure… Another great lady of our theater passed away last night… Souli Sabah (nee Anastasia Christodoulou, born in 1932) is a great artist, who won in revue and singing (who does not remember the gypsy singing the legendary “Carnation in the Ear” in the great film “Laterna, Ptochea and Filotimo”), who lived life next to her husband, the brilliant comedian Dimitris Nikolaidis, is no more … Those who knew her, remember her for her brightness, talent and kindness.
