How the FGA explains why it officially registered less than half of the payment requests sent by Romanians

The Insurers’ Guarantee Fund (FGA) announced on Tuesday that starting from 17 March 2023 – the date of withdrawal of the license to operate Euroins, and until 1 May 2023 it received 61,131 requests related to requests for payment or for the provision of compensation or premium reimbursement.

Of these, however, 27,453 payment claims have been officially registered, of which 19,637 payment claims for compensation/reimbursements – Appendix 10 and 7,816 payment claims for the return of premiums – Appendix 9.

In the same reporting period, the FGA reports that it received 10,722 requests to open claims, of which it officially registered only 8,045 requests.

Why such significant differences between received and officially registered FGA applications?

  • “The final number of payment requests registered in the FGA may differ from the number of received requests due to the fact that some requests are sent several times (duplicates), through several communication channels (e-mail, portal, mail, etc.) or are requests that are not fall under the category of payment requirements (requests, various requests, questions, etc.),” the FGA states.

Therefore, the FGA encourages potential creditors of Euroins to submit payment claims (Appendix 9/10) as well as requests to open loss files (Appendix 7) only through the special portals presented on the FGA website, the fact that this will facilitate registration activities and further application processing.

The FGA logs claims in the order they are received and distributes them for opening claim files or analysis in the same order.

Romanians requesting the opening of damage files at the FGA must also subsequently submit a payment request to receive adequate compensation.

According to the law, payments for all these requests cannot be made by the FGA earlier than 60 days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette of the decision of the ASF to withdraw the authorization to operate Euroins, a period that begins on May 17, 2023. .
