The film adaptation of Nintendo’s famous video game reached this impressive milestone in just 26 days. It is the second animated film in cinema history and the first feature film in 2023 to generate such an amount.

In the United States, The Super Mario Bros. The Movie’ has broken all records, achieving the best box office debut in the history of an animated film, ahead of Frozen 2, which was released in 2019.

In “The Super Mario Bros. The Movie,” the famous plumber in overalls and a mustache and his brother Luigi take on Bowser to save the Mushroom Kingdom, ruled by Princess Peach.

In North America, Super Mario has an estimated weekend gross of $40 million from 4,204 theaters, bringing it to $490 million through Sunday. International weekend grosses of $68.3 million for a total of $532.5 million.

In second place on the chart “Evil Dead Rise” from Warner Bros. impressed in its second weekend with $12.2 million in 3,417 theaters for a total of $44.4 million.

A new offering from Lionsgate. Are you there, God? It’s Me, Margaret” debuted in third place with $6.8 million from 3,334 theaters.

John Wick: Chapter 4 , another Lionsgate film, is expected to come in at No. 4 with an estimated $5 million from 2,481 theaters, enough to surpass the franchise’s domestic mark of $175 million. Worldwide, the film crossed the $400 million mark, a feat never achieved by any other film in the series.

The Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi reboot rounds out the top five at the box office with an estimated $4.7 million in just 500 theaters.
