Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said we should not “narrow our minds too much” when it comes to finding a solution to end Russia’s war in Ukraine, reports Ukrainian Pravdaciting European Truth and ZDF.

“It is important for me – and we have always tried – not to narrow our horizons too much. When someone like Wolfgang Ischinger, the former president of the Munich Security Conference, says that we should think about the fact that at some point we will have to negotiate, then we should not immediately boo him,” Merkel said.

Merkel also defended her Russia policy and energy decisions that have made Germany heavily dependent on Russian gas.

“I would prefer that gas be imported from Great Britain and Norway, as we do, and from the Netherlands. But it was no longer available. For us, the question was: more expensive LNG – a third more expensive – or cheaper Russian gas,” she said.

Merkel did not respond to a question about why, in retrospect, she is uncomfortable admitting her mistakes. “To be honest, I don’t know if it will have a calming effect if I say something now that I didn’t think about, just to admit my mistake now,” Merkel said.
