Russia on Saturday threatened Poland with “severe” reprisals after seizing a high school building for the children of Russian embassy employees, a building Warsaw is citing a court order to confiscate, AFP and EFE news agencies reported. Agerpres.

“Warsaw’s step, which goes beyond the scope of civilized interstate relations, is so daring that it cannot remain without an appropriate reaction for the Polish authorities and interests in Russia. The initiators of such provocative adventures should understand this.” This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

Moscow regards the “confiscation of this building” as a “new hostile action” on the part of Poland and a “gross violation of the Vienna Convention” on diplomatic relations, as well as “an attack on Russian diplomatic property in Poland.”

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland reported that this confiscation is taking place “on the basis of a court decision that gives the Polish state the right of ownership of this building, which the Russian embassy has been illegally occupying for years.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland also states that the mentioned building did not have diplomatic status, therefore it is not subject to the Vienna Convention.

Footage released by Polish media shows police forcefully opening the front door and entering the building. According to Polish public television, in 1945 the building was nationalized and handed over to the Soviet authorities.

This new dispute confirms the accelerated deterioration of bilateral relations between Warsaw and Moscow, and Poland stands out among the most active political and military supporters of Ukraine in the war waged against the latter by Russia.
