Our last year’s excursion to the north of Evia on the occasion Film project Evia from Thessaloniki Film Festival evoked mixed feelings: on the one hand, sadness and anger at the obvious, massive environmental disaster caused in the region by the fires of 2021, on the other hand, hope and a little pride, as the film institution stepped forward to keep our attention on Evia, come on let’s not forget and do our best to heal the wounds. It is equally important that this initiative be continued. As it was announced yesterday, from 20 to 24 June the Festival returns to Edipsos, Limni and Agia Anna with a new round of events, which will of course focus on films.
The interest here is obviously primarily ecological, with films of classic or later production, feature films and documentaries that, on the one hand, aim to raise awareness and encourage action, and on the other hand, they praise the majesty of nature in order to create an atmosphere. a measure of respect for a man who self-destructively threatens her. Film screenings will take place in Limni (Elimnion) and Edipsos, where the Apollon cinema, renovated from last year, will continue to operate this year.
Of course, there is still a lot of interesting things in the program of events, from student master classes to musical evenings, the exact content of which will become known in the near future. However, among them we single out the film tour of location managers, i.e. people who “hunt” for locations around the world to shoot there.
Orestis Andreadakis, artistic director of the festival, tells us about this: “We return with love to the north of Evia, with this tour to once again highlight the unique beauties of the region after the devastating fires of 2021. We hope that the Location Managers that we invite from all over the world will discover this beautiful area and choose it as a filming location for international and Greek productions. We are planning an extensive tour, both by sea and by land, aimed at film professionals. The tour will culminate in a master class where Location Manager and Line Producer of Ruben Östlund’s The Triangle of Sorrows will explain how they discovered Chiliados Beach and how they included it in the film that won the Best Location Award in Europe. European Film Commission Network”.
The intensive educational nature of the event is also confirmed by the top cooperation meeting. The Circle Women Doc Accelerator is an international specialized documentary filmmaking workshop aimed at women and women, producers and directors. This year, rigorously selected participants from all over the world will come to Evia to receive advice from experts on their projects, while the same program will host workshops open to the public.
However, the Greek Film Festival is also actively supporting Greek producers by securing five of them in the upcoming Cannes Film Festival’s Top Producers Network event with the Hellenic Film Center. Ioanna Bolomitis, Vassilis Chrysantopoulos, Romanna Lobats, Dimitris Nakos and Kristina Stavropoulou, along with 400 other producers from around the world, will take part in the program, which offers great opportunities to network and highlight their work.
