The head of the Central Commission of Arbiters, Kiros Vassaras, held a record press conference on Thursday, where he spoke about issues reported in SuperLigă arbitration. After recent criticism, the Greek has announced that he has no intention of resigning.

Kyros Vassaras remains at the head of CCA

Asked what he thought of FCSB financier Gigi Bekali asking him to resign, the CCA president said:

“And what can I do? I haven’t received any sms. Should I consider quitting? why Do you think we’ll ever be happy? Whoever takes this position feels the pressure. One thing is for sure, I don’t see any direction (no arbitrage) and when someone talks about clear mistakes that put them at a disadvantage, they should also talk about clear mistakes that were made in their favor. And why then think about resignation when there is no reason?

I believe in our referees, in their integrity, in their honesty, and we have to respect that. I believe that we have good players, less good and weak ones, the same coaches, the same referees. We have VAR to rule out obvious mistakes. We will do our best to prepare the referees as best as possible. This is the reason why I will continue (no – depends). Because this is my job.

It is not my job to resign when a mistake has occurred and someone has asked me to do so. My job is to prepare the referees, and no one can accuse me that these referees are not trained.”

He appealed to club managers to stop putting pressure on referees as they are implicitly putting pressure on their own players.

“We want to have consistency and a line in football according to the laws of the game and what is wanted at the level of FIFA and UEFA. I ask the managers to respect the umpires because we ask the umpires to show respect. We must respect the image of the referees.

Do not expect that tomorrow the referees, who will be on the field and depending on who is saying what or on the pressure, will interpret certain game situations differently.

They will try to apply only elements of the laws of the game. Don’t put pressure on the referees because you’re indirectly putting pressure on your players,” Vassaras said.

In his opinion, there are no more mistakes in the Super League than in other championships, saying that the Romanian referees are among the best in Europe.

“It is not necessary to come with explanations at the end of each stage, but there may be a reason to come when there is an obvious mistake. I have done it and I will do it again. When one says that it is red, and another says that it is yellow, we cannot come up with explanations each time, which solution is correct.

We certainly have a different number of refereeing errors than the world believes. And I believe that there is no football championship without mistakes. And I don’t think there are championships with much less mistakes than the Romanian one. Please stop, I always ask the judges to be fair.

Players and coaches have to play football on the pitch and referees respect that. And I do my best every time. It is no coincidence that our referees are among the best in Europe, I mean international referees,” explained Kyros Vassaras, News.ro reports.

The president of the CCA does not agree with the involvement of foreign referees in the Romanian championship match.

“We will never involve foreign judges. We trust our referees and will do everything to grow and train them. And the players of the Romanian championship believe in our referees. I understand when decisions are right or wrong,” he said.
