Alkis Murder Trial: Confession and Prosecutor’s Objections

By admitting that he succeeded in delivering a decisive blow to the femoral artery of Alkis Campanos and fully covering his co-defendants for their part in the murderous attack, the second of the 12 defendants in the murder of a 19 year oldduring his confession, which began in the morning in the Mixed Jury Court in Thessaloniki, he took the crime “on himself”, but did not seem to convince the district attorney.

All the previous time It was rumored that the 21-year-old defendant – the last person to leave the scene of the murder, according to the video footage of the case and the only one called in for questioning to give additional evidence by the Thessaloniki investigator – confessed to beating the late Alkis. Indeed, when he took to the court stage to apologize, he claimed responsibility for hitting the victim’s leg, and for the first time anyone involved admitted to having had physical contact with the young student.

“Faced with all this burden in prisons, I want and must offer a huge apology to the Alkis family. Unfortunately, time will not turn back, I would like to be in Alka’s place. I’m the one who kicked him in the leg. It was a fleeting shadow that I don’t remember well (…) I’m sure, I’m convinced that I did it,” he said, starting his apology.

He decided, as he mentioned, to continue this confession by following the testimony of the medical examiners during the previous period, at the same time he described it as his obligation to Alka’s parents, because “I want them to know the truth”, as he said. He added that when he found out that Alkis “left”, he was shocked.

Kitchen knife, bandit, unknown informant

Speaking about the decision to move to Harilau, he said that “we all decided it together.” The goal was to “find the followers of Mars”. “We wanted to“ beat ”, curse, hit, but in no case did we achieve what happened“, – he noted, calling himself a fan of PAOK. According to him, he himself took a kitchen knife with a wooden handle and a blade length of 10-12 cm, which, as he characteristically stated, had no “teeth”, was taken from the association of lovers of Old Patras Germanu ( starting point 12 accused).

He then described what happened at the scene of the murder, where he said they had gone when they were alerted by someone “sent by us” (unindicted), whose name he did not want to name. “When I arrived at the place, I got out of the car first, a second car followed us, I didn’t see the third one, because it turned left. I know for sure that the 4th defendant was with me. We asked them, “Which team are you?” They said, “Ares…”. I climbed the stairs (of the building), turned around for a moment, saw no one else. Before I could ask, the helmet hit me.”

“That’s How I Hit Alki”

He himself, judging by what he said in his apology, claimed that everything happened at the beginning of the episode. After the “scalps” he received, he stabbed “two or three times with a knife on the leg of his friend Alkis, who was running.” “At this time, someone standing on the steps hit me with a stick,” he added.

As for the blow to Alki, he said that he managed to do it when the 19-year-old also fled. “I didn’t point anywhere. When he went to jump over the wall, he was hit. I caught up and saw blood. I didn’t know what happened, that the situation was so serious,” he said.

Denying what was said in his two apologies and answering several times with the phrase “I don’t know”, he took the rest of the defendants out of the “frame”. In fact, when the president of the court, addressing the defendants, remarked that “you describe as if it were only you,” he replied: “I did not see what others were doing. I heard a rumble, noise, I don’t remember exactly. At that moment there was chaos, panic.”

Prosecutor: “I don’t believe you”

Taking the baton the district attorney testified that she was not convinced by what the young defendant mentioned. “I can’t believe you because they deny everything you said,” he pointed out, and at another point, commenting on his previous investigative apology, remarked: “We have three truths, which one should we believe?” Citing evidence from forensic witnesses that a blow to the femoral artery appeared to be compatible with “an ice pick or a screwdriver,” the prosecutor asked him if he was sure the weapon used was “a knife without teeth.” “I discussed all options, I’m sure,” he replied, adding that he threw it down the drain after the crime.
