This was preceded by a months-long and thorough investigation by the Security Sub-Directorate of North-East Attica, in which employees of the Security Sub-Directorate of South-East Attica assisted at the initial stage of gathering information, which resulted in the investigation of a total of 42 cases of thefts from homes and businesses, of which 14 attempts, and also five number plate thefts in various parts of Attica.
It was revealed that the members of the organization, at least from October 2022 to February 2023, joined and formed an operationally structured group with separate roles and permanent actions, acting in concert, with the aim of illegally generating income for a living by committing luxury. thefts of houses and companies throughout most of Attica.
As for the mode of action (modus operandi), the members of the criminal organization used a certain methodology:
- they drove up to the target houses in the evening or early morning hours in their company car and, having discovered the absence of occupants, proceeded to break open the central doors or windows,
- they took self-protection measures by covering all parts of the body using (gloves, motorcycle helmets and full face hoods),
- were equipped with all the appropriate means necessary to commit burglaries (ravens, sledgehammers and other tools);
- used only wireless to communicate with each other,
- they used high-powered official vehicles that changed regularly and differed in appearance, and installed stolen or forged license plates, which made it difficult for prosecutors to detect them.
The lead member played a catalytic role in the activities of the criminal organization. He resided permanently in the region of northern Greece and moved to Attica using his own or rented vehicles and vehicles, staying for long periods at his relatives’ houses or on short-term leases, developing his criminal activities. In fact, it is characteristic that other members of the organization did not take any action without his consent.
An important role in their activities was played by operational equipment, which they hid in the “Kavatsky” areas. They selected third party parking lots with no criminal records as their parking spaces and persuaded them to provide them. They used “auxiliary” vehicles to transfer them to and from operational vehicles, making it difficult for prosecutors to detect them.
The total financial benefit received by the criminal organization in about 4 months exceeds the monetary amount of 644,000 euros.
During a search of the house, an amount of 950 euros and a ring were found and confiscated, and 3 cars were confiscated.
The arrested, against whom a criminal case has been initiated, will be taken to the competent body of the prosecutor’s office.
