Alka murder trial: “We went for an accident, not a murder,” said the 24-year-old defendant

The previous fan incident at Oreokastro where “someone was chasing some of our people” was the trigger for a vicious fan attack that was carried out against him. AIki Campanu and his company, as mentioned by the first defendant, out of 12, opening a cycle of apologies in the hall of the Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki for the sensational episode of the murder on February 1, 2022 in the Harilaou region.

Denying any active involvement in the crime and repeating that “we didn’t come out to kill”, but only “to chase, hit someone”, the 24-year-old man described the chronology of the murderous – as it unfolded – attack. , apologizing for his involvement in “this tragic story,” he said. “I wish I could go back in time, do things differently, not be in groups and associations, but it’s too late,” he said, beginning his apologies.

Unraveling the tangle of events, the defendant, the driver of the first of the three cars driving towards Harilau, first stated that he was a PAOK fan and had been at the Pilaya (Palataki) indoor stadium since the evening, where he watched a volleyball match of his team. He said he started with a link located on Palaion Patron Germanou and added: “I took some flags and went to watch the match.” After a confrontation, he returned to the association, where there were from 4 to 5 of his co-defendants.

“They said that something happened in Oreokastro and that some people were chasing one of ours. We discussed going to Harilaou to film a fan episode. Chase, hit someone, but don’t do what happened. That’s how it came to us at that moment. It was everyone’s decision,” he said and added that he knows more of the remaining 11, less of others, and the last one – not at all.

“We were looking for fans of Mars”

“We walked slowly, looking for groups of Aris supporters,” he said, noting that he was leading a three-car march because he knew the area of eastern Thessaloniki better. When asked what weapons they had with them, the 24-year-old man replied that “everyone took what they wanted” and that he himself was unarmed.

Describing the moment they spotted Alka’s group, he said, “While passing by a takeaway, we unfortunately saw Alka’s group. I stopped, turned on the alarm, the car behind also stopped, the third one skidded. Three people got out of my car and went to the scene. I didn’t go down, I waited to see what would happen. No one got out of the back car. Then three more arrived from the third car.”

He then described the attack as he perceived it, as he said he did not have a line of sight from where he was. “There was a conversation, they (the victims) were asked what group you were from, and they answered: “Arianara, uh…””. Manura has begun. I saw kicks and punches. A man from Alka’s company ran towards Plastira, followed by the 4th defendant. I wanted to get out of the car, but I turned around and sat down because I didn’t put the handbrake on. The second time I went out, I saw Alka’s friend walking by. I reached the middle of the road, but I went down,” he said.

At that moment, apologetically, he saw some people walking from Papanastasiou Street, and, in combination with the whole scene (“I heard voices, curses, groans”), he was “tired”. “I shouted, let’s go, let’s go,” he added.

When asked by the court to indicate what each of them was holding, he said that he saw how the 9th defendant held a sickle, the 11th – a pickaxe, the 2nd – a knife, and the 3rd – a hammer.

“We got them…”

Testimony at the interrogation stage showed that as they were in the car and leaving the scene, someone said, “We got them,” and the 24-year-old man explained that it was a fan report that “we forced on them.”

“We didn’t understand the seriousness of the situation.” He was informed about the death of 19-year-old Alka a few hours later, when he went to work. “This morning I saw this on my mobile when I opened it. I was shocked when I read this. I haven’t spoken to any of my co-defendants. I wanted to tell my parents, but the police caught me and arrested me,” he said.

His testimony continues, the district attorney takes the floor and asks him questions.
