Anette Kontaveit (87 WTA) stopped in the first round of the tournament in Madrid. The player from Estonia was defeated in two sets by Karolina Muhova (52 WTA), at the end of the match, which lasted one hour and 22 minutes.
The ex-holder of the second place in the WTA hierarchy had no chance in the match with Mukhova and lost the game with a double 6-2.

In the second round of this tournament, Karolina Mukhova will meet Iryna Begu (35 WTA).
The WTA Mutua Madrid Open takes place from April 25 to May 7 on clay at the Caja Magica complex. It is in the WTA 1000 category, has a total prize money of US$7,652,174, and the title holder is Ons Jabert. Simona Halep won in 2016 and 2017.
