“Children’s hearts are not bought, but given,” Andreas Iliadis, director of the pediatric intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Patras, said in an effort to respond to the allegations of “organ trafficking” raised by Rula Pispirigou’s defense at a previous MOU meeting.
Arriving in court, where he will continue his testimony, Mr. Iliadis, a member of the National Organisation, stressed in a statement to reporters that “I will continue to be the voice of Georgina,” as he and his team took over the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the University Patras child hospital after the break he moved to Caramandanio in April 2021.
Mr. Iliadis, who was questioned by the defendant’s lawyer at the previous meeting of the MoD on April 6 about “trafficking in organs” and “selective export of transplants”, shortly before beginning his testimony today, said: “Children’s hearts are not bought. but donated. I have come to bear witness to my pure medical word, pure medical truth. I want and will continue to be the voice of Georgina. Inconsistent medical terms that cannot be put together create misunderstandings. Members of the National Organization for Transplantation and the Hellenic Society of Intensive Care are present in the hall today.”
In a previous court hearing, Mr. Iliadis was asked to confirm that he “sends tools abroad,” a question that sparked outrage and his response in a harsh tone: “Iliadis is not a courier for transporting tools. I am proud to be the transplant coordinator. What the lawyer said is an insult and I demand that you refuse! I am a member of the National Transplant Organization. You insult the people who donated organs!”
