The capital’s mayor, Nikusor Dan, announced on Monday on the air of Europa FM about a new candidate for the capital’s mayor’s office, which he wants and will run for. “We found a bankrupt city and made it financially sound,” the mayor also said, quoted by News.ro.

The capital’s mayor was asked how he comments on the latest poll, which gives him 8%.

“I don’t believe this survey, I don’t believe the way it was broadcast in the media. I saw a poll where I was 23, me as an individual, and other parties had candidates… ok. We can estimate, two and a half years have passed: I can say that we found a bankrupt city and made it financially sound. After years of getting worse year after year, the heating system is improving, although it still has a long way to go. We go from the worst to the best.”

When asked if he will run for a new mandate, Nikushor Dan answered: “I want to, of course. And I will run for office, yes.”

He also said that the problem is that “this city has been very, very poorly managed for 30 years.”

“It’s like in medicine: when the body sinks deeper into the disease, recovery takes much longer. We took a bankrupt city: in 2020 we had to pay a debt of 555 million lei and we didn’t have any bank to lend, and luckily the EBRD came to the last hundred meters. We had to do the same exercise in 2022 and 2023: get 555 million, and we had a double subscription – we restored the confidence of the financial market, and as the financial sphere, so were all other spheres, and when you get sick in the body, it continues until until he recovers,” said the mayor.
