Al Pacino turned down Han Solo role: ‘I gave Harrison Ford a career’

OUR Al Pacino could have easily turned down the role of Han Solo in the movie”star Wars” (“Star Wars”).

The Oscar-winning actor said he had refused to take part in the film since 1977, despite the fact that he was offered “a lot of money” for the role of Han Solo. Previously, Pacino starred in such legendary films as The Godfather (1972), Serpico (1973), The Godfather Part II (1974) and Dog Afternoon (1975).

“Well, I turned down Star Wars. I was new to the industry. You know what happens when you first become famous. Everyone says: “Give (the role) to Al. I was given the role of Queen Elizabeth,” the actor said during an event in New York.

Pacino said: “They gave me a script called Star Wars and a lot of money. I do not understand this. I read it and said I couldn’t do it.” In fact, he joked, “I gave Harrison Ford a career.”

Before Han Solo, Ford appeared in films such as American Graffiti, The Conversation, and Kung Fu. He later became famous for the Indiana Jones film series.

During The Godfather’s 50th anniversary in March 2022, Pacino called the film’s sudden rise in popularity “lightning.”

“I suddenly felt that the veil was lifted and all eyes were fixed on me. Of course, there were others in the film as well. But The Godfather gave me a new identity that was difficult to manage. This is a project that I am very lucky to be a part of. But it took me a long time to accept the glory and move on.”
