“In front of the freedom of Viktor Ciutaku to corrupt people and destinies, ask yourself where is the freedom of his victims,” Ciolos wrote on Facebook in a post titled “Romanian TV crime calls for exemplary behavior: closing this TV station.”

“The pro-European government in Chisinau banned the broadcasting of RTV in the Republic of Moldova for pro-Russian propaganda. Romania lacks not arguments, but courage,” he added.

The MEP did not mention the name of the journalist Iulia Marin, but his intervention came after huge public outrage caused by the way her death was staged on Romanian television.

What Cholos wrote on Facebook:

“In the light of recent events, I notice that the political opposition in Romania is not working properly or effectively. I understand that there are differences of opinion between us, but I do not understand this deafening silence in this extremely serious matter.

I hope the leaders of the opposition parties will not wait for the storm to pass to return to the television studio, which has violated all professional, ethical, moral and sane boundaries.

The Romanian political class, the government and the opposition, have controlled the behavior of this television for years through their presence on this station and its funding. I know this reality because I have always heard from many communications professionals that it is not good to argue with them, that they have a large audience, that they can hurt you, and many other arguments in the same category.

Let’s be honest with ourselves: Romanian television is a tool of intimidation and propaganda created by politicians interested in influencing the political game in the direction they want. An instrument financed by large public funds according to political interests.

This is not a media outlet, and many of the people who work there and appear in the studios are not journalists, even if they try to pretend to be.

Romanian television is the business of a dangerous criminal, a wanted person, a person who fled to a pro-Russian country, where he is hiding from the law and prison.

The people who created this tool of intimidation for him supported the emergence and development of AUR, an extremist pro-Russian political party, which for the first time is capable of threatening Romania’s European path. Some of them advise the PSD leadership, which uses this position to intimidate its political opponents.

The pro-European government in Chisinau banned RTV broadcasting in the Republic of Moldova for pro-Russian propaganda. Romania lacks not arguments, but courage.

Closing RTV is not about the press, it is about freedom and democracy. Before Viktor Chutaku’s freedom to corrupt people and destinies, ask yourself where is the freedom of his victims. We ended up protecting the criminals under the guise of complete freedom while ignoring the victims.

I invite all opposition political leaders to join this effort to demand the cancellation of the broadcasting license of Romanian television. Not in an offensive way to suppress the media institution, but legitimately, with examples and strong arguments that prove that we are dealing with a political tool of disinformation, manipulation and intimidation disguised as a media institution.

The National Broadcasting Council, an institution greatly weakened by political control, is currently failing to use its leverage to stop these serious lapses and protect citizens from manipulation, misinformation and incitement to discrimination.

I do not have high expectations from the current ruling coalition, but I suggest that the list of priorities for next year’s elections should include a complete reform of the NAK and that the new body should be able to close the tools of manipulation on this issue, despite the thousands of pages of sanctions received.

And, to be clear, I have seen different interpretations: I do not withdraw TV licenses, I do not want to punish anyone, this is not my role. Politicians have no right to that and should never have that kind of power in a democracy.

But I have the right to an informed opinion and to pay attention when the slip continues endlessly and there is no limit, and citizens are manipulated and misinformed.

My unequivocal opinion today is that Romanian television should have remained unlicensed for a long time if independent regulatory institutions were working and respecting the law. And if there are still real journalists on Romanian television, I ask them to lower their heads and get out of the mud.”

Ciutacu and Romania TV are accused of speech that incites hatred and discrimination

We remind you that hundreds of editors (including HotNews.ro), journalists, medical associations, non-governmental organizations and activists from Romania have signed an appeal against the speech that incites hatred and discrimination practiced by Romanian television after the death of journalist Julia Marin.

On Wednesday night, in the show hosted by the moderator Victor Ciutacu, the Romanian TV channel made a blunder regarding the journalist Julia Marin from Libertatea, who died at the age of only 32. Two more evenings of programs followed, in which the topic was again treated in a similar way.

In recent days, on Romanian television, the death of the journalist Julia Marin was qualified on Victor Chutaku’s show with phrases like: “These people have mental disorders, they made materials for the press”, “Miss Marin’s pen is a weapon. Which, used dishonestly, can destroy fortunes”, “Wrongly advertised as a media experiment” or “I would not allow a person with mental problems to work for me”.
