A scathing reaction with scathing accusations was published on Saturday on the website of romaniatv.net, the website of Romanian television, which has been accused in recent days of serious blunders during shows moderated by Victor Ciutacu, in connection with the death of the 32-year-old broadcaster. Svoboda journalist Julia Marin.

In the article entitled “QED The official position of Romanian television in the case of Julia Marin (journalist who committed suicide) and Catalin Tolontan – Libertatea (editor-in-chief who read the labor law and the decision of Julia Marin’s doctor)” and signed by Alina Costache, in the article posted on the online television platform talks about the medical problems of the deceased journalist and blames the editorial office of Libertatea. along with Katalin Tolontan that he helped her “kill herself”.

The article, written in a very aggressive tone, in an informal form with repetition of punctuation marks and full of personal assessments, claims that “The scandal started by Tolontan and the editors of Libertatea!!! (we don’t think that all journalists there support Tolontan) had only one goal: to block the investigation of Viktor Chutaka, hiding the legal and moral responsibility of the editor-in-chief Katalin Tolontan.”

“The complaint to CNA and the petition signed by Soroșista cadres aim to force Romanian television to censor Victor Ciutaca. This will not happen, and the truth about Katelin Tolontan’s contribution to Yulia Marin’s suicide will be revealed,” reads the article on romaniatv.net.

The author of the article also accuses Cătălin Tolontan of “publicly inciting hatred against one of the most respected journalists – Viktor Chutaka.”

Canceling the broadcasting license for Romanian TV? Tolontan does not support such a measure

The recent coverage of the death of journalist Julia Marin from Libertatea on Romanian television caused a stormy reaction in the press and civil society – hundreds of press services, associations and personalities signed Libertatea’s appeal against the speech that incites hatred and discrimination practiced by the television station. However, revoking the RTV license is too drastic a step, believes Catalin Tolontan, editorial coordinator of Libertatea and GSP.

CNA has been lenient over the years. Hate speech on some televisions has reached such levels that it antagonizes and complicates even the idea of communication between us. Now, however, CNAs are being called to go to the other extreme and take drastic measures: suspending their broadcasting licenses. In European countries, a decision was made to suspend licenses in the case of Russian stations, which in these situations also caused protests by European organizations fighting for freedom of speech. What does the law say in Romania?” writes Catalin Tolontan in an article published on Saturday by Libertatea, in which he clarifies that the text represents his personal point of view and not that of the editors.

He says that in the last few days, more and more people have been calling for Romanian TV’s license to be revoked, citing the example of former prime minister Dacian Ciolos, who wrote on Friday that “Romanian TV should be shut down.”

“Depriving the license of a TV channel in a European country is such a radical act that I categorically disagree with it. I don’t feel the slightest sympathy for RTV,” Tolontan says.

The journalist mentions that the TV channel “now, night after night, staged a scene with my image on the screen. They demand that the prosecutors take me away.”

“On Friday night, they said that we are an ‘enemy gang’, ‘Soros troops.’ These are my thoughts. RTV has the right to express them. However, often in the show they end up with discrimination and incitement.

We are already witnessing not the expression of opinions, but something else. Despite this, I do not believe that closing down Romanian television or any station broadcasting today is a democratic, proportionate and legal decision. Let’s look together at the law according to which television and radio work,” says Tolontan, who is also reviewing articles of the law with the conditions under which a television license can be revoked.

APPEAL signed by hundreds of newsrooms, organizations and individuals protesting against hate speech on Romanian television

We remind you that hundreds of editors (including HotNews.ro), journalists, medical associations, non-governmental organizations and activists from Romania have signed an appeal against the speech that incites hatred and discrimination practiced by Romanian television after the death of journalist Julia Marin.

On Wednesday night, in the show hosted by the moderator Victor Ciutacu, the Romanian TV channel made a blunder regarding the journalist Julia Marin from Libertatea, who died at the age of only 32. Then followed two other evenings of shows where the theme was again treated in a similar way.

On Romanian television for the past three days, the death of journalist Julia Marin was qualified on the Victor Chutaku show with phrases such as: “These people have mental disorders, they made materials for the press”, “Miss Marin’s pen is a weapon.” . Which, used dishonestly, can destroy fortunes”, “Wrongly advertised as a media experiment” or “I would not allow a person with mental problems to work for me”.

Ciutacu reacted and continues to accuse the journalist of not being up to her job

After more than 1,500 newsrooms, medical associations, non-governmental organizations and public figures signed a petition protesting Romanian television’s hate speech in the case of the death of journalist Yulia Marin, Victor Chutaku, the producer of the show that attacked The journalist had the first reaction: “Does the Ringier Trust have the legal medical documents that, after repeated hospitalizations at Obregia, his former employee was fit to do her job?”

A Romanian television producer responded with several posts on Facebook, generally in an ironic tone.

  • “The whole front is about us. Only one thought is missing, mine. That is, about a person who at the climax caused a tsunami. why Because when Petrisor Obae contacted me, I told him that he could accept absolutely anything I wrote on the subject. And that AFTER he looks at the two records, because I don’t comment on what others say about me, what I would do, only what I did, I answer any question. Like every time he was looking for me. I am still waiting for these questions. So much for deontology. Andrey, are you in touch…
  • PS Should I be happy or worried that the proletarian petition against me has collected more signatures than those supporting Iliescu, Ponta and Dragnia?” wrote Viktor Chutaku, Romania TV reports.
  • “In the post-truth era, the “good world” has answers to everything, not questions. And the debate was de facto canceled in society. Everything is one-sided. You are in a pack or a wave is coming towards you.
  • There is a wise saying that people who have only certainty are invincible. Look, there are those who think with their heads. And which is not inclined to lynchings, to scaremongering, to hoaxes, or to pressure. Because that’s how you’re born, and later you learn. The man writing to you here has survived a wave of hatred directed at him by a head of state at the height of his popularity. And although scarred, that violence leaves traces, he grew, on his feet, on his mind, on his ambitions. He will continue to do so. He will continue to question, investigate, doubt. With or without ax tails nearby…”, Viktor Chutaku also wrote.
  • “(…) And since we have still reached questions, although this is the work of public authorities, I return: the Ringier trust has in its archives medical documents required by law, according to which, after repeated hospitalizations at Obregia, his former employee was he fit to do his job in terms of health?” – writes Ciutacu.

Chyutaku: “Well, I’m not running for anything, not even the presidential ladder!”

In another publication, in which he claims he is a “target”, Ciutaku refers to “Besescu’s intellectuals”, to which are added “some henchmen who have accepted the official doctrine”:

  • “I feel like I was at the time when Basescu addressed the intellectuals. It’s the same thing, plus some sycophants who have accepted the official doctrine, only this time the target is me. Well, I’m not running for anything, not even the post of president of the block ladder! Otherwise, it is good that the network is clearly revealed. Not that we don’t know them, but at least now we have an almost complete list. I hope Plesh, Patapievichi, Tismanianu and Van Groningen will be added by the morning.”

The National Anti-Discrimination Council has appealed to itself and will analyze the responsibility of people who commented on the death of journalist Iulia Marin in several shows on Romanian television, CNDC president Caba Astalos said on Rock FM on Friday.

Tsaba Ashtalos said that the case will be analyzed by both the National Anti-Discrimination Council and the National Audiovisual Council (CNA), as both institutions have shared competence in this case.
