On Tuesday, the Chamber of Deputies is discussing a simple motion against the Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea. The plenary debate was marked by the intervention of a minister who came with a diary in which he said he “recorded” his daily activities. USR cataloged the Romanian agriculture scam, and AUR MPs came with posters saying “Stop imports from Ukraine!”.
“Farmers say about Dea that he is, and I quote, ‘a fraud, a fool of Romanian agriculture.’ Farmers are asking you the same as we are, stop bullying Romanian farmers. (…) Prices have gone crazy, price hikes on price hikes. Do you know why the prices went crazy? So. He is the blind Minister of Agriculture. He does not see the price increase. You know who doesn’t see price increases anymore? All those who are in the Government,” said UDR MP Daniel Blaha at the chamber’s plenary session.
While Minister Daea was delivering his speech, AUR deputies protested behind him with posters demanding to stop imports from Ukraine.
The Vice-President of the Chamber, Daniel Suchiu, intervened and invited them to their seats in the pews. “I would like to remind you that changes were made to the Regulations of the Legislative Forum last year, according to which it is forbidden to display banners or signs of protest at the plenary session. I invite you to the banks, it’s a bright week, and I don’t want us to have problems,” said the Chamber’s vice-president.
Minister Petre Daea delivered a 45-minute speech in which he told parliamentarians that his “entrusted mission and conscience” compel him to write in a daily diary the activities carried out and the results obtained. “This is a diary, it is a response to the movement of my consciousness, and you can study this diary.”
The Minister of the SDP also noted that the UDR makes false statements about non-implementation of the National Strategic Plan. Regarding the demand crisis in Ukraine, the Minister of Agriculture clarified that one more amount of additional support for farmers is being analyzed and the decision of COREPER is expected, as well as the answer to the letter addressed to the President of the EC, Ursula von der Leyen.
“Regarding the grain crisis in Ukraine, I have to inform those who do not know that an association agreement was concluded between the EU and Ukraine through ratification by the parliaments of all member states and ours. Based on the agreement, the Regulation on Temporary Trade Liberalization Measures was also developed. Another amount is currently being considered for additional support. We are waiting for COREPER’s decision and the answer to the letter addressed to the President of the European Commission,” Daea added.
George Simion: “Our message is clear. Stop grain imports immediately, stop fooling Romanians.”
In a simple lawsuit initiated by USR and Forza Dreptei, Minister Petre Dara is accused, among other things, of not receiving more money from the European Commission to support farmers in the crisis of cheap grain in Ukraine.
The action is called “From the granary of Europe to the shame of Europe. Minister Daea is deliberately destroying Romanian agriculture,” and the vote will be given at the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday.
