According to Variety, the film company is developing a series based on the novel of the same name by Matt Haig. A professor of history suffers from a rare disease – old age, which is why he ages incredibly slowly. Although he looks like a man in his 40s, the character Cumberbatch will play is from the 1500s. The professor will work with others like him to form a team. But things start to go wrong when he falls in love with an ordinary woman, which he vowed not to do.
“Benedict is perfect for the role and this film has a lot of themes,” said Anna Marsh, CEO of Studiocanal.
“With his inimitable style, Matt re-explores what it means to be human and live a life – in this case a long one – with passion, humor, drama and inspiration,” added Cumberbatch.
Joining Cumberbatch in developing the series are screenwriter D. Moore and director Thomas Alfredson (Tinker-Taylor Spy Soldier).
How to Stop Time is Cumberbatch’s first major series since the Patrick Melrose miniseries debuted in 2018. Since then, he has been featured on television projects such as Good Omens and What If?.
