THRILLER (2023)
Creator: Steven Bouchard
Interpretations: Simone Distefano, Alessandra Rocca

His platform Disney+ presents us with a new mini-series based on real events, which premiered at the latest Berlin Film Festival. We are in the south of Italy, where even today the mafia governs and determines the balance in people’s lives. Three women, daughters and husbands, themselves raised in the bosom of criminal organizations, decide to work with a fearless prosecutor to end the blood cycle and constant fear that defines their existence.

Successfully immersing us in the atmosphere from the very beginning, the Italian series aesthetically resembles – and not only – the successful films of this genre, such as “Gomorrah” and “Dogman” by Matteo Garrone, but also through the environment, giving more weight to the characters. They are at least the protagonists, for the most part naturally female, emerging from a male-dominated environment to destroy it.

There is still a lot of suspense here, but also pure action, which, however, does not monopolize the length of the episodes. And while I wish there was a little more depth to the story, the well-written screenplay and (mostly) performances of the lead characters help it to reach a very high level.

An excerpt from the Hieronymus Bosch Secrets documentary, available on Cinobo.

On the Cinobo platform, we choose the documentary film by José L. Linares, which explores Hieronymus Bosch’s famous “Garden of Earthly Delights” in a unique way. The Spanish director gets exclusive access to the film, trying to immerse us a little deeper into the fascinating world of the creator.

With the help of great figures such as writers Salman Rushdie and Orhan Pamuk, musician Ludovico Einaudi, hedonistic philosopher Michel Onfret and others, as well as connoisseurs of art history, the “Garden” is divided into parts and details that are presented separately and at the same time as a single whole, in the form conceived by the imagination of the artist.

With the help of technology, the work is scanned electronically to reveal drafts and the stages of its creation. And if on another canvas this division would have only academic interest, here it adds real depth, since the viewer opens up little by little, like treasure hunting, small “pictures in a picture”.
